Reduce and repair electrical waste
New electrical items are expensive to produce and use up precious resources. Making your electricals last longer or passing them on to be used again saves on using up those resources. It will also save money for you and your community.
Reduce your electrical waste
It’s tempting but you don’t need to buy a new electrical item just because you can. If the item you have still works, keep it until it doesn’t. When buying a new item, you could buy a refurbished second-hand one or you could buy a brand that is high quality and repairable.
Repair your electrical waste
Surrey has 23 repair cafes, many of which are happy to repair electrical items. There are also plenty of shops across the county that will do the same. Or you could learn to repair something yourself.
Give your electricals a new home
You may want to pass on your electrical items. There are many online marketplaces through which you can sell your devices. There also some shops that take donated electricals to be sold on.
Of course, if it can’t be repaired, sold or passed on, you can recycle your electricals from home or at locations around the county.

In some areas of Surrey, electricals are collected by local councils. To find out more, visit our webpage on recycling electricals from home.
