Dispose of rubbish that doesn’t fit in your bin
You can book a bulky waste collection with your local district or borough council or you can find out more about waste locations around the county.
What happens to your rubbish once it has been collected?
Once collected, your rubbish is turned into energy and used to power the National Grid. Find out more by visiting our webpage on what happens to your waste.
How much rubbish is produced in Surrey?
Surrey households produce, on average, 441.8kg of rubbish per year. This puts us in 8th place in England out of 27 similar local authorities. For more information, check out the Surrey Waste Tracker.
What impact does rubbish have on the community?
The more rubbish that is created, the greater the harm to the environment; this is because when items aren’t used again, new resources must be used up to replace them. It also costs councils more money; this is because it costs more to process rubbish than any other type of waste.
Do bin collection crews put food waste in with rubbish?
No. Food waste collection crews carry service bins, which look the same as household rubbish bins, and into these they empty food waste from outdoor food bins. When full, they empty the service bin by tipping the waste into the truck for the food to be processed separately.
How can you reduce the amount of rubbish that your household produces?
Visit our webpage on reducing and reusing your household waste.
