Household batteries

Once your household batteries have been recycled, they are separated into different elements, which are used to make new metal or plastic products and new batteries.

How are household batteries recycled?

Alkaline batteries are broken down by machine with the different types of metal separated. Lithium-ion batteries are shredded and treated with a water-based treatment before being broken down into their separate parts. The remaining materials from both types of battery are used again to make new metal products and batteries.
