The best thing to do with garden and food waste is compost it at home. Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings can be put into a compost bin or heap and will produce a nutrient-rich, peat-free compost that can be used to help gardens grow.
Getting started is easy. Surrey residents can buy a reduced price compost bin through our discount scheme or you can make your own compost bin or heap. You can also read our guides on what to compost, how to compost and our composting FAQs.
Meat, fish, dairy, bones and cooked food waste cannot be added to a normal compost bin or heap. However, they can be composted using a food waste digester, which Surrey residents can buy at a reduced price through our discount scheme.
