Home composting

The best thing to do with garden and food waste is compost it at home. Grass cuttings, dried leaves, twigs and vegetable peelings can be put into a compost bin or heap and will produce a nutrient-rich, peat-free compost that can be used to help gardens grow. Meat, fish, dairy, bones and cooked food waste cannot be added to a normal compost bin or heap. However, they can be composted using a food waste digester.

Surrey residents can get their hands on a discounted compost bin or hot composter, which takes all food waste, in one of the regular sales we run. Our next sale will take place between Thursday 15 July and Wednesday 21 July. To buy a bin, visit the compost bin sale section of our website during the sale period.
